My Dream: A Line To Death By Junk Food

I had a dream a long time ago, maybe when I was sixteen, but I still remember it very well. I didn’t know much about nutrition and health when I had the dream. I’ve added my interpretation at the end.

I saw a television hanging from the ceiling flashing colorful pictures of all kinds of junk food so quickly that my eye could only catch some of the images. A voice was explaining that all of the children in the nation had to be put to death because they ate junk food and it had been decided that junk food must not exist anymore. I think I was surprised and confused when I heard that in my dream. I went to the place where children were sitting on four seats along the wall. The seats were going up and down alternatively. Children were sitting on them and lined up behind them. Whenever the child on the first seat was taken to be killed, everyone would move up. I sat down on the forth seat, then moved up to the third seat. Suddenly I thought, “Wait a minute! I’m not just going to let myself be killed!”

I then ran out of that building and into another where several of the older people from church were standing. One of them asked in an alarmed voice, “You’re not going to be put to death, too, are you?”

I replied that I was trying to hide, and hoped that I wouldn’t be. I wasn’t sure it would be safe there, and ran out to my car, slouched down into the driver’s seat, and put a blanket over me. I soon realized that no one was after me, and no one would come to take me to be put to death. The only way I would be killed would be if I were to go back and stand in the line to die.

Now, after this dream has rolled around in my head for several years, I think that its overall moral is that it’s dumb to do something that we know could harm us. This is an obvious truth, but it must be one of the hardest to follow. In my dream, we were like cattle lining up to be slaughtered, and it must be almost the same when we do things that hurt ourselves or have bad consequences. The problem is, if we aren’t aware that something is bad for us, think that we have no choice but to go along with it and reap the consequences like everyone else, or prefer short-term happiness over long-term joy and success, then we will never be aware of how free we are to choose a different path. I didn't know I could choose to live rather than to die until after I ran.

It seems that this was specifically applied to junk food in my dream. If junk food harms us, as in this dream, then eating it all the time could be like standing in the line to be put to death, or at least to develop poor health, get sick, contract a disease, or develop a nutritional deficiency. I eat junk food, too, but not nearly as much as I did before I was more aware of the connection between nutrition and health, and I’m going to start eating even less of it now.

8 ideas from 52 Ways To Protect Yourself From Cancer

I checked out the book 52 WAYS TO PROTECT YOURSELF FROM CANCER by Terry T. Shintani, M.D., M.P.H. and J. M. T. Miller, 1993, from a library recently. I already knew of a few things that could cause cancer, but when I read this book, I learned more about it. Here is a list of the things that I found the most interesting.

1. The American Cancer Society and the National Cancer Institute estimate that 35% of cancer would be eliminated if everyone would eat healthy diets. Some researchers even think that 70 or 80% of cancer in the US is caused by the "Standard American Diet (SAD)" or by "lifestyle and environment." [I think this must be true in other countries when too many unhealthy things (such as refined sugar, artificial sugar, processed and/or refined food, canned food, hot dogs etc.) are added to the diet.] Studies being done all over the world are showing that diet effects cancer rates. Some of these show that when people from countries where the people eat healthy diets and have low rates of cancer move to the US and adopt the SAD, their cancer rates quickly go up to the US cancer rate.

2. Harvard researchers have found a link between breast cancer and alcohol (3-9 drinks per week=30% higher risk, 9+ drinks/wk =60% higher risk).

3. Too much fat (unsaturated or saturated) seems to contribute to cancer. It also causes cancer in rats or makes their tumors grow faster.

4. A diet high in animal protein is associated with some kinds of cancer (and causes loss of calcium). Red meat, poultry, fish, dairy products etc. typically have many hormones, antibiotics, and other chemical residue.

5. The authors of this book think that B15 and B17 are frauds, and wrote that a variety of substances have been found in B15 and 17 pills. These are promoted as anti-cancer B vitamins.

6. Vitamin C and E can help prevent cancer.

7. Smoked or barbecued, pickled, and nitrate-cured food causes cancer. I'd already heard that nitrate-cured food, such as hot dogs, lunch meat, canned meat etc., cause cancer, but I didn't know that pickled food could, and hadn't given much thought to smoked or barbecued stuff.

8. Some molds cause cancer :-(. The amount of a specific food mold has a direct correlation to liver caner rates in several countries. Mold and fungus have caused cancer in experiments. The "most potent" cancer causing substance is part of a type of mold that can grow on some foods. This books lists these as peanuts, peanut butter, pecans, pistachios, almonds, cornmeal, grits, and cottonseed meal. Make sure they're fresh before you eat them.

IMPORTANT PLEASE READ A woman stopped at a pay-at-the-pump gas station to get gas. Once she filled her gas tank and after paying at the pump and starting to leave, the voice of the attendant inside came over the speaker. He told her that something happened with her card and that she needed to come inside to pay. The lady was confused because the transaction showed complete and approved. She relayed that to him and was getting ready to leave but the attendant, once again, urged her to come in to pay or there'd be trouble. She proceeded to go inside and started arguing with the attendant about his threat. He told her to calm down and listen carefully: He said that while she was pumping gas, a guy slipped into the back seat of her car on the other side and the attendant had already called the police. She became frightened and looked out in time to see her car door open and the guy slip out. The report is that the new gang initiation thing is to bring back a woman and/or her car.. One way they are doing this is crawling under women's cars while they're pumping gas or at grocery stores in the nighttime The other way is slipping into unattended cars and kidnapping the women. Please pass this on to other women, young and old alike. Be extra careful going to and from your car at night. If at all possible, don't go alone! This is real!! The message: 1. ALWAYS lock your car doors, even if you're gone for just a second! 2. Check underneath your car when approaching it for reentry, and check in the back before getting in. 3. Always be aware of your surroundings and of other individuals in your general vicinity, particularly at night! Send this to everyone so your friends can take precaution. AND GUYS...YOU TELL ANY WOMEN YOU KNOW ABOUT THIS Thanks, Barbara Baker, Secretary Directorate of Training U.S. Army Military Police School
THIS IS VERY SERIOUS ... PLEASE DO NOT DELETE IT! PLEASE PASS IT ON!!
