I enjoy your website so much -- your pictures are indeed worth a thousand words.

The Squatter Community is fascinating. Does the government routinely allow that? Are they within a non-squatter community?

Again, thanks for sharing yourself with us. I enjoy your pictures and the things you choose to write.

  2. Thanks! This is a squatter community that has grown up on a piece of government land in the last 20 or so years. The government doesn't allow it. They've been trying to drive the people away to the mountains, but the 8000 or so families living there keep resisting their effort because they would have no way to support themselves in the mountains. Apparently, the reason that the government wants to force them to leave is so that they can make Manila look better to the rest of the world... I'll try to publish a post about it later.

  3. Of course, from what I understand, the govermnent does give some help to them. What they told us is just from the perspective of people who live in that community. It would be good if I could also get the govermnent's perspective on this...
